Mississippi State makes changes in weekend pitching rotation for Queens series

As Mississippi State finishes out the first part of its baseball schedule, the Diamond Dawgs will have a different look to its rotation this weekend.
Chris Lemonis and Justin Parker put out the rotation for the weekend series with Queens with State maneuvering behind Pico Kohn. Saturday and Sunday will have new starters as Ben Davis gets the nod for the second game of the series and Karson Ligon will move from his game two post to Sunday.
Davis has been an emerging piece to State’s pitching plans this year as he spent his first five appearances out of the bullpen. The Itawamba Community College transfer has thrown 10.2 innings and scattered seven hits with just three runs, two walks and 18 strikeouts. He helped stabilize two tough midweek opponents and top 25 teams in Southern Miss and Troy in recent weeks with 5.1 combined innings, three hits, one run, zero walks and nine strikeouts.
A native of Booneville, Davis gets a chance to make his first start in Maroon and White on Saturday at 2 p.m. He replaces RHP Stone Simmons in the rotation.

Ligon looking to prove place in rotation
On Sunday, Ligon will get another shot on the mound but on a different day as he’ll go head-to-head with Queens at 1 p.m. Ligon is coming off of his worst performance of the year as the senior lasted just 2.0 innings against Arizona with four hits, five runs, one walk and three strikeouts.
He currently has a 5.00 ERA through three starts and has not pitched beyond the fourth inning.
Pico Kohn has had no questions about where he sits among the rotation candidates. Through three games, Kohn is 2-0 with a 1.53 ERA. He’s struck out 28 batters, walks two and surrendered just three earned runs in 17.2 innings. The last two ball games against Missouri State and Rice, Kohn has pitched into the seventh inning and he’s twice notched 11 strikeouts in a game, his career high.
The junior LHP will start off the Diamond Dawg series on Friday night at 6 p.m. All three games can be streamed on SEC Network +.
