Latest projections for Mississippi State in the NCAA Regionals

A productive last two weeks has gotten Mississippi State solidly inside the NCAA Tournament projections with work to do to lock it up.
The Diamond Dawgs (31-20, 12-15 SEC) started this rise two weeks ago when they set at 7-14 in league play and fired head coach Chris Lemonis. Since Justin Parker was elevated to Interim Head Coach, the Bulldogs are 6-1 and have series wins over Regional teams Kentucky and Ole Miss with a sweep against the Wildcats.
Thanks to that run of production, the Bulldogs are firmly in the field according to D1 Baseball. This week’s projections have State as the No. 3 seed in the Tallahassee Regional playing host and No. 4 overall seed Florida State. Also in that Regional is No. 2 seeded Northeastern and No. 4 Bethune-Cookman.
It would be a familiar location for a State program that has had some good times at or against FSU in postseason play. Most recently, State started its journey to the 2018 College World Series there with four-straight wins facing elimination. Elijah MacNamee’s two-run, walk off home run against the Seminoles in the first elimination game of the Regional would stun the home team and start a postseason run to remember.
The first trip to Tallahassee came in 1993 with an 0-2 appearance in that Regional. In 2007, MSU started another run to Omaha with a 3-0 mark at FSU including two wins against the host Seminoles.

State has a 7-4 record all-time in postseason games against FSU and the Seminoles have been the Diamond Dawgs’ most common opponent.
If MSU advanced in those projections, the Bulldogs would be paired with No. 13 seed TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, in a Regional that includes a three-seeded Oklahoma.
According to D1Baseball, 13 SEC teams are currently set to make the tournament with Texas A&M being another possibility, but the Aggies are in the Last Four Out. Five of the top eight seeds are projected SEC teams with Texas, LSU, Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Auburn all projected National Seeds and Alabama a current host as well.
While State is on pace to get in the tournament, there is still more work to be done this weekend. The Diamond Dawgs head to Missouri for a Thursday-Saturday series that will close out the regular season. The Tigers (16-35, 3-24 SEC) are in the middle of another rough season, but Mizzou hasn’t stopped fighting – most recently going to College Station and sweeping Texas A&M last week.
