Mississippi State remains inside latest top 25 polls

After dropping a road game at Oklahoma on Saturday, Mississippi State is down in the rankings this week.
The Bulldogs followed up back-to-back wins over top 20 teams Ole Miss and Texas A&M by losing to the Sooners 93-87 in Norman. It was just the fourth SEC win of the season for Oklahoma and dropped the Bulldogs to No. 24 in this week’s Associated Press and Coaches polls. That ranking is down three spots from a week ago.
It was a strong two-game stretch of defense for the Bulldogs as they held Ole Miss and A&M to 71 and 54 points respectively. In Norman, State’s defense reverted back to its issues on the defensive end as the Bulldogs gave up 59 second half points and 11 3-pointers in the game.
It was the 10th time this season that State has surrendered double digit makes from beyond the arc and the Bulldogs are 2-8 in those ball games with six-straight losses in such games. State is 17-0 when holding teams to single digit made threes.

State also struggled again from three hitting 10-of-31 shots from long range and five of those came in the final minutes of the game.
Despite the drop, State stays in the rankings and have remained inside the top 25 for the majority of the conference slate. The SEC is in the middle of one of its best seasons in history with eight teams ranked inside the top 25 including three inside the top 5. Auburn is No. 1 in the country with Florida No. 3 and Tennessee at No. 5.
State (19-8, 7-7 SEC) is in the final stretch of games this regular season. The Bulldogs have to go to No. 6 Alabama on Tuesday night for an 8 p.m. tip on ESPN2 against the Crimson Tide. Saturday, the Bulldogs return home to take on LSU at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Humphrey Coliseum.
