(Caitie McMekin/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images) Mississippi State head coach Chris Jans yells to Mississippi State's Josh Hubbard (12) during a men’s college basketball game between Tennessee and Mississippi State at Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center, Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.

Portal madness has arrived yet again for college sports and basketball is taking center stage this spring.

Both Mississippi State basketball teams are coming off of another NCAA Tournament berth with Chris Jans’ team earning a third trip to the Big Dance in as many years while Sam Purcell led State to a second NCAA berth. The men bowed out again in the first round while the women made it to round two for the second time in Purcell’s tenure and now each team is hoping to reload their rosters.

Jans squad appeared to have key pieces Josh Hubbard, KeShawn Murphy and Shawn Jones set to return for another year next season though Hubbard has decided to test the NBA waters while maintaining his eligibility and Murphy hit the portal to Auburn.

As for the women, it looks like a rebuilding offseason for the second-straight year. After Jerkaila Jordan and Eniya Russell graduated, State has already lost starters Madina Okot and Debreasha Powe to the portal and the roster got down to three scholarship players a year after having just four players remaining.

Here’s a look at where things stand for each team.
