It’s starting to become a tradition to see a former Mississippi State football player in the biggest game of the year.

A lot of that is thanks to the fact that two of those former Bulldogs play for the Kansas City Chiefs. The franchise is making its fourth Super Bowl appearance in the last six years. The team is seeking its third championship ring during that stretch as well as their fourth Super Bowl overall.

Chris Jones has a chance to continue to cement his stamps as one of the greatest Chiefs players ever on Sunday evening. Jones has already won two rings and has been a part of all four of those Super Bowls in recent years.

It was another great year for the big defensive lineman as he earned first-team All-Pro for the second time in his career and was selected to the All-Pro list for the fifth year. He also earned a Pro Bowl selection for the fifth-straight season.

Jones had 10.5 sacks this season, notching double digits in sacks for the third time in his career. He held out of the first game of the season before earning a monster one-year contract. He’s set to be one of the hottest targets in the offseason.

Also playing on Sunday will be former Starkville High great Willie Gay Jr. The talented linebacker has been on the team for three Super Bowls now but missed out on the 2020 appearance with an injury. Gay hurt his neck in the Divisional Round of the playoffs against the Buffalo Bills and missed the AFC Championship game but is reportedly set to play in the Super Bowl.

It’s good news for the Chiefs defense that is getting back to 100%. Gay had 58 tackles in the regular season this year with 4.0 tackles for loss, four pass deflections, three fumble recoveries, an interception, 1.0 sack and a forced fumble.

Jones goes for ring number three and Gay ring number two on Sunday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. on CBS.
