Group of State commits set to compete in Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game
Another All-Star season is just a couple of months away as high school football in Mississippi ramps up and several Mississippi State commitments will be featured in All-Star season this year.
Four future Bulldogs were named to the roster coached by Hattiesburg’s Tony Vance on Wednesday morning with LB Tyshun Willis (Velma Jackson), LB Tyler Lockhart (Winona), OL Mario Nash (Kemper County) and QB KaMario Taylor (Noxubee County) all making the cut.
Willis was listed as a defensive lineman on the roster and is expected to be an EDGE player for the Bulldogs on the next level, but he’s doing it all for Velma Jackson this year. After leading his team to the Class 1A state championship game a season ago, Willis is pulling his weight in a big way on both sides of the ball. He has 17 tackles to this point but has 12.0 of those for loss and already an eye-popping 10.0 sacks with a fumble forced and one more recovered.
Additionally, Willis has been unstoppable on offense with 19 carries for 415 yards and five touchdowns as he averages 21.8 yards per rush. Willis also has 11 catches for 211 yards and three more scores.
The other three Bulldog commitments are all putting Class 3A on notice this year beginning with Tyler Lockhart. A younger brother to State freshman TJ Lockhart, Tyler committed to State a couple of weeks ago and is now focused on trying to get his Winona team back on track after three-straight losses.
The Tigers were the 3A state champs during Lockhart’s junior season and he’s been impressive again this year with 44 tackles in five games, 7.0 TFL and 2.0 sacks.

Taylor is fresh off of a big win over rival Louisville as the Noxubee County Tigers came through and knocked off the No. 1 team in the state last week. He’s put on a show against teams like Louisville, Starkville and West Point before even entering 3A play and has already thrown for 1,080 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions while rushing for another 518 yards on 58 carries with seven touchdowns.
Nash’s Kemper County team could be the biggest threat for the Tigers in the playoffs as the Wildcats are 5-0 and outscoring teams 202-42 on the year. Nash has been a big reason for the success as he’s cleared lanes up front.
These four players just happen to be the four highest rated recruits in the signing class by the On3 Industry rankings. State’s class is currently ranked 25th nationally after the addition of EMCC four-star defensive tackle Zavion Hardy on Tuesday.
The Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game is slated to take place on Saturday, December 14 at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Ala.
