Mississippi State Offensive Line Coach Cody Kennedy

Jeff Lebby’s era of Mississippi State football has arrived.

The Bulldogs are on their third coach in as many years as Mike Leach’s tragic passing opened the door for defensive coordinator Zach Arnett’s debut as head coach last year. That experiment failed before the year even ended for State and now it’s Lebby’s turn to take the wheel.

While there is always a risk in hiring first time head coaches, Lebby brings to Starkville an exciting offensive scheme that has been productive everywhere he’s been. The coach has also brought with him some swagger that has the fanbase ready to see what’s next.

Over the course of the next 100 days, we will take a look at Lebby’s roster and even some fun historical rewinds that will bring back memories for Dawg fans of all ages.

Today, we look at a player that is looking to go out with his best season yet.

100 Day Bulldog Countdown: 52 Days – No. 52, Sr. OG Grant Jackson

Jackson always dreamed of being a Bulldog.

For that reason, the West Lincoln standout has stuck things out over the years while others have hit the transfer portal looking for more playing time. The 6’6, 325-pounder has spent the last four seasons waiting his turn and doing what he needed to do to help the team.

Jackson started as a three-star recruit in the class of 2020 and was offered by Missouri, Florida State, and MSU among many others. Despite heavy interest from Florida State, staying home to play for the Bulldogs was what Jackson wanted and he committed during the summer of 2019.

As a true freshman in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season, Jackson played in two ball games. He would become a big part of State’s special teams over the last three seasons as he played in all 38 game. This season, Jackson will have a chance to compete for a starting job.

Jackson got some reps in spring practice starting at the guard position. He will have some stiff competition there, but Jackson’s veteran leadership has him in the mix to compete when training camp rolls around this fall.
