Jeff Lebby’s era of Mississippi State football has arrived.

The Bulldogs are on their third coach in as many years as Mike Leach’s tragic passing opened the door for defensive coordinator Zach Arnett’s debut as head coach last year. That experiment failed before the year even ended for State and now it’s Lebby’s turn to take the wheel.

While there is always a risk in hiring first time head coaches, Lebby brings to Starkville an exciting offensive scheme that has been productive everywhere he’s been. The coach has also brought with him some swagger that has the fanbase ready to see what’s next.

Over the course of the next 100 days, we will take a look at Lebby’s roster and even some fun historical rewinds that will bring back memories for Dawg fans of all ages.

Today, we look at blocker getting close to seeing his time on the field.

100 Day Bulldog Countdown: 79 Days – No. 79, OL Jakson LaHue

As LaHue hits year three with the Bulldogs, the versatile lineman is hoping to make his move this fall as he has the ability to play multiple position for State.

LaHue could play some tackle, but he could also slide inside and play guard if needed. That makes him a valuable piece moving forward for an offensive line that seems to have gained some steam, and depth, in the offseason.

In high school, the big 6’5, 315-pound Texan was ahead of the rest. Beyond the fact that he could grow a mean beard around the time he was probably getting his license, LaHue looked the part of a Power 5 offensive lineman.

The Azle, Texas native was also impressive in the classroom as he picked up offers from schools like Dartmouth, Penn, Harvard, Yale and others before committing to Virginia Tech. A year earlier, the Bulldogs were able to flip an offensive lineman in Cannon Boone from Va. Tech on signing day and they would do it again close to the big day with LaHue.

LaHue didn’t play his first two years on campus but he’ll enter his redshirt sophomore year looking to fight up front. We’ll see in the fall exactly where he will be competing but don’t be surprised if you start to see No. 79 getting his first bit of playing time.
