A long-awaited fan experience improvement is coming to Davis Wade Stadium in 2025.

Mississippi State’s Director of Athletics Zac Selmon announced on social media via video that the stadium will be adding LED lights this upcoming season. The new lights are set to upgrade the atmosphere at the second oldest on-campus stadium in the country.

“We are committed to providing our student-athletes and fans with the best possible game-day experience,” Selmon said in a school release. “The state-of-the-art lighting will make Davis Wade Stadium an even more electric atmosphere. We believe these upgrades are one more step in our pursuit of making Starkville and Davis Wade Stadium one of the premier destinations in college football.”

MSU has had the same lighting system since 2010 but are set for a major upgrade in 2025. The LED system will be custom-designed lightning for certain moments throughout the game to add a dynamic to the DWS atmosphere that hasn’t been seen before in Starkville. Atmospheres at Dudy Noble Field and Humphrey Coliseum have already been elevated in recent years but the football stadium now joins the ranks.

For second-year head coach Jeff Lebby, he sees it as an improvement to the environment and for his team’s playing ability.

“This is going to take our game-day environment to a whole new level,” Lebby said. “The brighter, more uniform lighting will improve visibility for our players and enhance the viewing experience for our fans. The addition of special effects will create an incredible atmosphere that will give our team a real Starkville home-field advantage. This investment is just another example of how our administration continues to step up and provide our program with the resources we need to compete at the highest level. We can’t wait to see the impact it has on our program.”

LED lighting and sound have been two points of contention with many Bulldog fans over the last few years. Selmon and his administration are now pushing to upgrade several aspects of the stadium including the sound and premium seating.

The University release reported that the design comes from Techline Sports Lightning.
