Louisiana WR Davian Jackson discusses why he chose Mississippi State
Jeff Lebby and Chad Bumphis identified Westgate (La.) High School wide receiver Davian Jackson as a priority early in the process and it stuck with the New Iberia native.
A speedster on the field, Jackson wasted very little time on his official visit pulling the trigger on a commitment this week. The talented pass catcher would commit to the Bulldogs on Saturday night via Instagram.
In the end, it was the feel that Jackson got from the coaching staff and the community that set it off.
“I chose Mississippi State because I believe that it’s a family. It’s a great program,” Jackson said. “Coach Lebby knows what he’s doing with his guys and he’s going to push me to get to the next level.
The visit itself was a great one for Jackson. He got a chance to have a cooking competition with his fellow recruits, go on a scavenger hunt around campus, see the sights, eat some great food and build relationships.
A few of those relationships built came from freshman wide receivers JJ Harrell and Stonka Burnside. The activities and food were icing on the cake, but he really enjoyed time spent around the people.
“It was awesome,” Jackson said of the visit. “This was my second time being here, but I loved it. The atmosphere, all of the people and the whole town, everything was great. I was treated like family.

“All the players and the staff welcomed me like I was already on the team. They showed me why this should be my home for the next three to four years.”
Bumphis sells Jackson on the maroon and white
A man that Jackson will likely spend some of the most time around when he is in maroon and white is wide receivers coach Chad Bumphis. A former Bulldog himself, Bumphis knows how to sell State to recruits and he did a fine job of that to Jackson.
“Coach Bump is my dog. He’s been talking to me since before I got the offer and telling me how if I come here I will be able to produce very early,” Jackson said. “I can help this team win games and get to the next level.”
Jackson chose the Bulldogs over Ole Miss, Arkansas and Miami. He said he does plan on taking another official visit in the fall to Arkansas. At the time of this story, Jackson was one of 14 commitments for the class of 2025. The Bulldogs have landed 11 in the last two weeks.
