Two Bulldog signees climb into final On3 Top 300 recruiting rankings
On3 came through with its final rankings of the Class of 2024 on Monday morning and a couple of Mississippi State signees are on the move up the rankings.
Charles Power and the talented rankings crew think as highly of Bulldog signee Xavier Gayten as any network in the industry. The Brookhaven Athlete has a couple of options as far as his position on the next level and that makes him a valuable prospect in the eyes of the evaluators.
Gayten made the move into the final top 300 at No. 249 overall and is now the top rated player in the Bulldogs’ recruiting class. On3 now has him as the No. 8 Athlete in the country and the sixth best player in the state of Mississippi. No other network has Gayten rated a four-star prospect or higher than No. 21 in the state.
The 6’0, 190-pounder was the team’s running back at Brookhaven and dominated the scene. In three years, Gayten rushed for 5,216 yards and 56 touchdowns, averaging 7.8 yards per rush over his career. After carrying it for 1,654 yards and 13 scores as a junior, Gayten was named first-team All-State this past season as he eclipsed the 2,000-yard mark and scored 25 touchdowns. He also ran track at Brookhaven and clocked a 10.95 in his 100m dash.
Expected to play safety at MSU, Gayten has already shown the ability to tote the rock on the offensive side of the ball and would be more than capable of running the ball in college if need be.
Also making the move up the rankings in the final top 300 is Clay Chalkville (Ala.) wide receiver Mario Craver. This year, Craver led his team to a state championship win before coming to Starkville for an official visit and leaving committed to Chad Bumphis and the Bulldogs.

Craver started out a four-star, fell in the rankings but ultimately found his way back after a great showing at the Under Armour All-American Game in January. He finishes No. 260 overall by the On3 rankings and is the No. 44 wide receiver nationally while logging the No. 18 spot in the state of Alabama.
The 5’10, 190-pounder is a playmaking WR with over 1,000 yards receiving as a senior and 15 touchdowns overall. He led his team to back-to-back state championships and finished with nearly 2,500 career receiving yards while hauling in 23 touchdowns. Like Gayten, he is a track speedster with a 10.74 100 meter of his own.
Carver finished as a consensus four-star recruit as both Rivals.com and On3 bumped him up a star in the final rankings. He enrolled at MSU earlier this month and will take part in spring practice.
Falling out of the top 300 was WR JJ Harrell but he remains a consensus four-star and the On3Industry rankings has him No. 250 overall and the No. 43 receiver nationally.
The Bulldogs’ class is ranked No. 26 in the country by the On3 Industry.
