Despite the fact the transfer portal doesn’t officially open for several days, players intentions are beginning to come to the surface and Mississippi State already has some on the way out.

Two wide receivers will be on the move, sources told On3Sports. Sophomore Creed Whittemore and freshman JJ Harrell have both declared their intentions to leave State.

Both players used this season as a redshirt year with Whittemore choosing to redshirt after playing in four games. The second-year wide out’s plans were first reported by Maroon and White Daily on September 25 and he decided to sit the rest of the season with the intent of transferring after the year.

The former four-star wide out from Gainesville, Fla., caught 15 passes in his career for 167 yards and two touchdowns while rushing five times for 101 yards and two more scores. He had four catches for 65 yards in the first four games and a 41-yard touchdown run this season.

For Harrell, a promising career at State ended before he could make a major impact. He played in four games this season with participation against Georgia, Texas A&M, Arkansas and Ole Miss on special teams.

Harrell was the No. 7 player in the state of Mississippi for the class of 2024 and ranked No. 252 overall by the On3 Industry Rankings. He chose the Bulldogs over offers from Tennessee, Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU and many others and was previously committed to the Volunteers before picking the Bulldogs.

These are the first two players that have announced their transfers from MSU this offseason but many more are expected after State’s 2-10 season. Jeff Lebby is expected to have a massive turnover on the roster in the coming month with incoming and outgoing talent.
