Mississippi State and No. 5 Georgia are just a couple of days away from going head-to-head on the gridiron and the early injury report is taking shape.

It’s been an injury-riddled first part of the schedule for State but the bye week appears to have helped get players back on track for Saturday. Most notably, one of the nation’s leading tacklers will return this week as safety Isaac Smith is no longer listed on the injury report.

Smith had a concussion after taking a big hit against Florida but he traveled to No. 1 Texas and was a gametime decision two weeks ago. After going through warmups, he didn’t feel right and would sit.

“I warmed up and was about to go and I tried to hit someone, and I couldn’t go,” Smith said of the Texas game. “Me and (Jeff Lebby) talked and I was just on the sidelines being a leader. I went into the locker room, took a moment to myself and came back out, put a smile on my face ready to watch the guys play.”

The sophomore from Fulton leads the SEC with 51 tackles in just four games and has added a pass breakup and a forced fumble at safety. He has been one of State’s only bright spots in what has already been a difficult year defensively.

Listed as “OUT” for the game on Saturday were CB Treveon Wright, S Tyler Woodard and DT Kalvin Dinkins. All three have missed multiple games with Dinkins out since the first game of the year. CB DeAgo Brumfield is off of the injury report for the first time this season and could be poised to make his State debut. The Bulldogs also appear to have starting DT Kedrick Bingley-Jones back for the first time in the last two games as well as S Chris Keys.

State will again be without running back Keyvone Lee on Saturday as the former starter is expected to miss significant time due to an injury that occurred against Florida. QB Blake Shapen is out for the season as previously reported by MSU after a shoulder injury against the Gators.

Also, State will continue to be without wide receivers Creed Whittemore and Trent Hudson who Maroon and White Daily reported two weeks ago would redshirt and sit the rest of the season.

UGA and State will meet at Samford Stadium in Athens on Saturday afternoon at 3:15 p.m. The game will be on SEC Network.
