LB John Lewis will transfer from Mississippi State
Shortly after linebacker Ty Cooper entered the transfer portal on Tuesday morning, his fellow linebacker John Lewis has been announced as a portal entry as well.
A former four-star recruit, Lewis never reached his full potential in Starkville. He looked to have taken the next step in the offseason with the new staff and was State’s defensive representative at SEC Media Days, but the production on the field didn’t come this season.
The junior finished with a career-high 21 tackles but just 1.0 TFL this year. He had 44 tackles in 40 games, 4.5 TFL and a block during his four seasons at State.

In high school, Lewis was ranked as the No. 237 player in the country out of Germantown in Mississippi. He was the nation’s No. 26 linebacker and the fifth best player in the class of 2021. He chose State over Ole Miss and Florida State.
Having redshirted as a freshman, Lewis will have one more season left of eligibility.
He joins Cooper and Tabias Hinton as transfers out to this point as well as WR Creed Whittemore, JJ Harrell and Trent Hudson and QB Chris Parson. More are expected in the coming weeks for a State roster that will have a lot of offseason turnover.
