Diamond Dawg rotation sees a change ahead of LSU series

Pitching plans are set for Mississippi State and No. 8 LSU for this week.
The Bulldogs have made a shakeup in their rotation ahead of the third SEC series of the year while the Tigers will keep things in order. With the series moving up by a day, coach Chris Lemonis and pitching coach Justin Parker have decided to keep Pico Kohn on his normal Friday start.
“You love playing on Thursday night because of the exposure for college baseball is great, but what it does to Friday night starters makes it tough,” Lemonis said after the Tuesday win over Samford. “I learned that my first year with Ethan Small and thought that wore him out bouncing back and forth. We’re looking at it. We just want to be what’s good for Pico. I think that’s the most important thing for the long run.”
With that in mind, the Diamond Dawgs will start junior Evan Siary (0-0, 2.31 ERA) against one of the SEC’s top pitchers in sophomore LHP Kade Anderson (5-0, 2.65 ERA). Siary is new to the weekend rotation this year but it’s relatively familiar territory for him.
The Starkville Academy graduate started seven games in his first two seasons at State and was 1-5 with an ERA over 7.00. His junior season has yielded a much more efficient stat line has he’s pitched in six games this season with a 2.31 ERA.
Siary has thrown 11.2 innings this year with just seven hits, three runs and three walks so far while striking out 15 batters. All three of those runs came last weekend against Oklahoma when he surrendered three runs in 3.0 innings. He threw 2.1 innings the Saturday prior against Texas with no hits, no runs and one walk while striking out five.
The only start this season came against Old Dominion in Biloxi when Siary threw 3.0 scoreless frames with two hits, one walk and five strikeouts.
Kohn staying on schedule
Kohn will be matched up with RHP Anthony Eyanson (3-0, 4.50) for game two of the series. The lefty Kohn is coming off of a strong performance in a 2-1 win over Oklahoma. He was named SEC Pitcher of the Week after going 6.0 innings and surrendering two hits, two walks and no runs while striking out 10 batters.

Ben Davis will be coming out of the bullpen this week after having two tough starts in league play. Davis failed to make it through the third inning of either game but threw a scoreless inning on Tuesday night against Samford.
Game three will belong to senior Karson Ligon (2-3, 4.76). After struggling in a couple of starts earlier in the year, Ligon has given MSU a competitive start in each of his first two weekends inside the SEC.
Against Texas and Oklahoma, Ligon had 8.2 innings and gave up seven runs on eight hits while walking three batters and striking out nine. He held OU to just one hit in his first three innings but had two runs charged to him after he left the game in the sixth.
Ligon will pitch against Chase Shores (4-1, 4.88)
The three-game set begins on Thursday night at 7 p.m. and can be seen on SEC Network. Friday’s game is set for 6:30 p.m. with a Saturday first pitch at 2 p.m.
