Mississippi State basketball continues to climb in national rankings

Mississippi State continues to climb in the national rankings and that trend continued Monday in the Associated Press Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll.

After being ranked No. 19 last week in both national polls, Mississippi State moved to No. 17 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 and moved to No. 16 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

The Bulldogs are one of 10 SEC teams ranked this week in the Associated Press Top 25, as well. Tennessee remains No. 1 followed by Auburn at No. 2 and Alabama at No. 5. Also in the Top 10 from the SEC is Florida at No. 6 and Kentucky at No. 10.

Other SEC teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 include No. 12 Oklahoma, No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 23 Arkansas and No. 24 Ole Miss. Also of note, Mississippi State’s last game was a 79-66 whipping of Memphis back on December 21st and Memphis is back in the Associated Press Top 25 this week at No. 21.

Mississippi State was off for the Christmas holiday period last week but return to action on Monday night for an 8 p.m. tipoff against Bethune-Cookman at Humphrey Coliseum. The Bulldogs will then open up SEC action this Saturday against South Carolina with a 1 p.m. tip at Humphrey Coliseum.
