Mississippi State men's and women's basketball learn of opponents for SEC/ACC Challenge
On Wednesday afternoon, the Mississippi State basketball programs learned of their opponents for the 2024 SEC/ACC Challenge. Mississippi State’s men’s program will host Pittsburgh on December 4th at Humphrey Coliseum as part of the 2024 SEC/ACC Challenge.
That meeting will mark the first-ever regular-season meeting between Mississippi State and Pittsburgh. The two programs have met two times previously and both came in postseason play. In the most recent meeting, Pittsburgh edged Mississippi State 60-59 in the First Four game of the 2023 NCAA Tournament. The first meeting between the two schools saw the Bulldogs claim a 66-61 decision at Pittsburgh in the 2001 NIT.
On the women’s side, Mississippi State will travel to Georgia Tech on December 4th. Game times for the men’s and women’s matchups will be released at a later date.
The SEC/ACC Challenge debuted last season and in their first SEC/ACC Challenge matchup, Mississippi State dropped a 67-59 decision at Georgia Tech. On the women’s side last year, Mississippi State lost to Miami, 74-68, at Humphrey Coliseum in its SEC/ACC Challenge debut.
In May, Mississippi State announced several non-conference matchups for the 2024-25 slate. That includes home games against Southeastern Louisiana (Nov. 12) and Prairie View A&M (Dec. 8). The Bulldogs will also face McNeese State in Tupelo at Cadence Bank Arena on December 14th and will travel to Memphis on December 21st.

Also last month Mississippi State learned of its SEC opponents for the 2024-25 season while dates and times will be announced later. The Bulldogs will have home-and-home series with SEC foes Alabama, Ole Miss and South Carolina.
At Humphrey Coliseum, Mississippi State will host Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Missouri and Texas A&M, as well, along with the home-and-home matchups. Inside SEC play, the Bulldogs will also travel to Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee and Vanderbilt along with the road trips to Alabama, Ole Miss and South Carolina.
Mississippi State finished 21-14 last season and fell to Michigan State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Jans became the first coach in program history to take the Bulldogs to two straight NCAA Tournaments in the first two years at the helm. State is now aiming for its third straight invite to March Madness, which has only been done one other time in school history. Former State head coach Rick Stansbury took the Bulldogs to four straight NCAA Tournaments from 2002-05.
