Mississippi State seeding/opponent set for SEC Baseball Tournament

Mississippi State’s SEC Tournament plans are set.
After the Diamond Dawgs finished up a three-game sweep of lowly Missouri over the weekend, State has locked up the No. 11 seed in next week’s conference tourney in Hoover, Ala. MSU is set to take on No. 14 seeded Texas A&M (28-25, 11-19 SEC) in game one on Tuesday night at 9 p.m. at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
The Bulldogs grabbed the 11 seed after Florida (15-15) won the tiebreaker for the 10 seed after a series win earlier this season. Oklahoma (14-16) lost its Saturday contest to Texas and moved down to the 12 seed.
It was a series to remember for State as it closed out the regular season outscoring Missouri 50-11 with two run-rule wins for the Diamond Dawgs. It was the most runs scored in an SEC series in school history as State pounded out 15 home runs and 11 double along the way.

Hunter Hines broke the school record for career home runs after hitting four in three games over the weekend. His 69 home runs are now alone in first place as he passed Rafael Palmeiro and has moved to fourth in SEC history. Ace Reese also had a huge weekend with four home runs of his own and is now at 21 this season. The two players were part of getting State to a school-record-tying 97 home runs this season, the most since 1998.
MSU and Texas A&M did not meet in the regular season this year but did play four times last season. State lost the series at A&M before taking down the Aggies in game two of the SEC Tournament. The Aggies were the preseason No. 1 team in the country and now enter the week likely needing at least three wins to have a shot to get into postseason under first year head coach Michael Earley.
