An instate rematch will have to wait one more day for first pitch.

Mississippi State and No. 20 Southern Miss will be playing on Wednesday evening now due to severe weather coming into the area on Tuesday. Game time on Wednesday is set for 4 p.m.

Neither team had announced a starting pitcher by Monday night. In a 3-0 game one win in Hattiesburg last month, State threw freshman LHP Charlie Foster and USM rolled with one of its top arms in reliever Colby Allen.

Allen got the best of the Diamond Dawgs that night as he started and went 4.0 innings and gave up no hits or runs while striking out five batters and walking one. His walk came to the first batter of the game and then he would retire 12-straight. Foster, on the other hand, lasted just 2.0 innings in his first career start and surrendered three runs with two walks.

Foster had tough luck behind him as the Bulldogs did not field well. State had two errors set up for a couple of unearned runs. Foster did strike out three in his 2.0 frames and the rest of the bullpen would dominate with 6.0 scoreless innings and five strikeouts. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the Golden Eagles did the same to lead to a big win for USM.

Since that game, USM (9-3) has lost a midweek game to Ole Miss 15-8, but the Golden Eagles won two out of three against Louisiana Tech and TCU. MSU swept a series against Missouri State before falling to No. 19 Troy. State went to Houston over the weekend and took part in the Astros Foundation Classic where the Bulldogs beat Rice 14-3 and then loss two games against Arizona and Oklahoma State by a combined three runs.
