Mississippi State survives UNO, walks it off 2-1
Aaron Downs hit a single that found a gap with the bases loaded and no outs on Wednesday night in Biloxi to secure a walk off win for Mississippi State Baseball.
The Bulldogs rode the best performances of the year from Karson Ligon and Colby Holcombe to the extra inning victory. Ligon finished with 3.0 IP, three K’s and one hit in 13 batters faced, while Holcombe finished with 4.0 IP and was a strikeout machine finishing with seven in 15 batters faced. Overall, the Mississippi State staff didn’t allow a single earned run through 11 innings. Oddly enough, it was on the other side of the plate where MSU struggled.
No one registered multiple hits in the game, and three starters for the Bulldogs wound up hitless despite the extra innings. Until the 11th inning walk off, the only run of the night for Mississippi State came off a Nolan Stevens home run, which traveled 398 ft on its way out of the ballpark.
Dakota Jordan’s home run streak was ended, as UNO walked the Mississippi State slugger in favor of a Hunter Hines at bat in the 10th inning that resulted in a double play that retired the side.

Next up for Mississippi State
The Diamond Dawgs await their toughest task yet in the reigning national champions – the No. 2 ranked LSU Tigers. Still boasting an electric offense, LSU will be the true litmus test for a Mississippi State staff that, up to this point, has looked much improved since its 2023 campaign.
Mississippi State will have the home field advantage in this one, but with no word on the status of Nate Dohm after his exit from last Friday’s game, the status of the Bulldogs’ Friday night guy is still in question.
That series will kick off Friday night, with first pitch scheduled at 4 p.m. from Dudy Noble Field. All games will be aired on the SEC Network.
