Diamond Dawgs and Longhorns pushing final two games of the series to Sunday

With severe weather on its way to Starkville this weekend, adjustments are continuing for Mississippi State’s weekend series with No. 11 Texas.
The baseball program announced that Saturday will be a complete wash for the two teams. It will be two seven-inning ball games with game two to follow shortly after the first concludes.
“Due to potentially dangerous weather conditions throughout the day, Saturday’s game has been postponed,” a statement said on X. “We will now play a doubleheader on Sunday with game one beginning at 1 p.m. and game two starting 40 minutes after the conclusion of game one.”
Mississippi is set for a potential historic day of severe weather in the state as tornadoes and severe storms are set to impact the state of Friday night and continue into the day on Saturday. Because of that, schools around the southeast are adjusting the schedule for the weekend.

The first game of the series was also impacted on Friday night as State moved first pitch up two hours to 4 p.m. The Diamond Dawgs got off to a good start in that game against the Longhorns with a 4-2 advantage and it was 5-3 heading into the seventh inning.
A five-run frame by Texas changed that in a hurry as the Longhorns were able to take a 8-5 lead. State threatened in the ninth when Ace Reese delivered a two-run double with two outs, but a groundout from Noah Sullivan ended any threat and the Bulldogs lost 8-7.
State will try to turn the tide on Sunday when the team plays two games at Dudy Noble Field. Ben Davis will start the first of the two games as RHP goes out and tries to replicate a dominant performance last week against Manhattan. RHP Karson Ligon will pitch the finale of the series and also had his best game as a Bulldog when he threw 5.0 innings and struck out nine batters to just one walk.
