QUICK HITTER: Bulldogs fight but fall short in 35-13 loss at No. 1 Texas
Mississippi State went to Austin, Texas and put up a fight against the No. 1 Texas Longhorns on Saturday.
37-point underdogs with true freshman Michael Van Buren getting his first start, the Bulldogs were in the game most of the way but fell short 35-13 against the Longhorns.
The Bulldogs trailed just 7-6 at one point in the first half and 14-6 at the half as the State defense gave them a chance. Texas was able to put up 14 points in the fourth quarter to push the lead out.
Van Buren finished his first start 12-of-23 for 144 yards and had a touchdown run but the freshman’s offensive line struggled. State’s line gave up six sacks in the loss but the Bulldogs rushed for nearly 200 yards before those losses. State had 50 carries in the game for 150 yards total led by Johnie Daniels’ 15 carries for 75 yards.
Kevin Coleman led MSU with six reception for 57 yards.
On the defensive end, the Bulldogs still struggled to keep big plays in front of them as State gave up 522 yards with 324 coming through the air from Arch Manning with two touchdowns on 26-of-31 passing.

Quintevian Wisner had 13 carries for 88 yards rushing while Deandre Moore had four catches for 103 yards and two touchdowns.
Stone Blanton led the Bulldogs in tackles with nine and had 1.0 tackle for loss with 0.5 sack and a fumble recovery.
State (1-4, 0-2 SEC) are losers of four-straight games and get a bye this week before heading off to take on No. 2 Georgia on October 12.
