The steady trend of movement to the transfer portal continued on Wednesday for Mississippi State with another underclassmen announcing his intentions to transfer. Rising sophomore safety Avery Sledge is the latest Bulldog to enter the transfer portal.

Sledge played linebacker his first two seasons on campus before the former Forrest County AHS product moved to safety in recent spring practices. As a redshirt freshman in 2023, the 6-foot-3 and 210-pound Sledge played in nine games and totaled two tackles. His top highlight as a Bulldog came in the 2023 season opener when Sledge returned a blocked punt for a touchdown against Southeastern Louisiana.

Sledge played in two games in 2022 as a true freshman and totaled one tackle while maintaining a redshirt season.

Other Bulldogs to enter the transfer portal this spring include offensive linemen Jayden Hobson and Zay Alexander, linebacker Khalid Moore, defensive lineman Caleb Bryant, cornerback Luke Evans, receiver Justin Robinson, safety Trent Singleton and punter Keelan Crimmins. The spring transfer portal window closes on April 30th.
