Following just one season in Starkville, Mississippi State point guard Denim DeShields is on the move.

A source said that DeShields would be entering the portal for her final season of eligibility. This comes after the UAB transfer started all 34 games for the Bulldogs this past season.

DeShields averaged 27.1 minutes per game for State this year with 5.7 points, 3.2 assists 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. She also had 2.6 turnovers a game at the point guard position and shot just 34% from the field and 32% from three-point range.

Prior to her time at State, DeShields played two seasons for the Blazers in Birmingham, Ala. She was a Conference USA All-Freshman team member her first season on campus starting in 30 of 31 games and averaging 13.0 points, 4.3 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 30 minutes per game. Her second year produced a third-team All-American Athletic Conference selection when she led the AAC with 5.3 assists per game with 13.4 points per contest.

DeShields is the daughter of former MLB player Delino DeShields and sister of WNBA player Diamond DeShields. She is the sixth player to enter the transfer portal off of the Bulldog roster joining starters Madina Okot and Debreasha Powe as well as freshmen Tahj Bloom, Anaisha Carriere and Shakirah Edwards.

Sam Purcell is now in a nearly full rebuild with his team as he has to also replace star player Jerkaila Jordan and key contributor Eniya Russell. The Bulldogs have added Ole Miss transfer Kharyssa Richardson but have at least six more spots to fill from the transfer portal.
