Bulldogs land Oklahoma State transfer Chandler Prater
Fresh off of a Super Bulldog Weekend official visit, Oklahoma State transfer Chandler Prater has committed to Mississippi State women’s basketball.
Sam Purcell welcomed in Prater for a three-day visit to Starkville beginning on Friday morning and she would announce on social media her intentions of transferring to State.
The transfer marks the third school for the guard Prater on her journey through college. That journey began for the Kansas City, Mo., native at Kansas where she starred for the Jayhawks for three seasons.
As a junior at Kansas, Prater started in 33 games and averaged 9.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.7 steals a game in 2022-23. She finished the year with 79% makes from the free throw line while hitting 41% from the field and she scored in double figures 14 times that season with a career-high 24 points coming against TCU in Big 12 play.
Following 86 games playing for the Jayhawks in three years, Prater decided to finish her career at Oklahoma State but an injury would change her fortunes. Prater was set to have a big season in 2023-24 and was averaging 8.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in the first five games of the season with three games in double figures.

One of those contests was a matchup against a strong Ohio State team on November 22 when Prater went down with a ruptured Achilles. She missed the rest of the season due that injury and is on the cusp of returning to action in the summer.
In high school, Prater was one of the top players in the state of Missouri as she was named conference player of the year four years in a row with a first and second-team All-State honor during her time. She also captured a state championship her senior season to cap her career on the high school level.
The addition of Prater is the second transfer portal commitment for the Bulldogs as she joins Kentucky’s Eniya Russell. The Bulldogs have also added 6’6 Kenyan center Madina Okot this offseason to the signing class that includes three players. It takes the Bulldog roster to 10 players with more transfer portal work to be done for Purcell and his staff.
