For the second time this week, Mississippi State was able to add more experience to the defensive side of the ball via the transfer portal. On Friday morning, former West Virginia transfer cornerback Montre Miller announced his commitment to the Bulldogs, which puts the finishing touches on Mississippi State’s 2024 roster.

Due to an early-season injury, the 5-foot-11 and 188-pound Miller only played one game at West Virginia and totaled three tackles in the season opener. The South Carolina native spent his first three seasons of college football at Kent State and he becomes the second transfer cornerback addition for State this offseason, joining Memphis transfer DeAgo Brumfield.

In the 2022 season at Kent State, Miller totaled 52 tackles (40 solos), two interceptions, eight PBUs, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble. In his final two campaigns at Kent State, Miller combined for 99 tackles (79 solos) and six interceptions.

This offseason the Bulldogs searched for more experienced cornerbacks to add to the 2024 roster after losing both starting corners from last season. Decamerion Richardson recently got drafted by Las Vegas in the 4th round of the NFL Draft while the other starter – DeCarlos Nicholson – transferred to Southern Cal.

With Miller’s decision, Mississippi State added its fifth addition from the spring transfer portal. The Bulldogs have also added Illinois defensive lineman Anthony Johnson, New Mexico State receiver Trent Hudson this past weekend and added Utah State running back Davon Booth and Memphis defensive back DeAgo Brumfield in April.
