Mississippi State lands Ole Miss WR Ayden Williams out of the transfer portal
A Mississippi native will not have to go far for his new college destination.
Former Ole Miss wide receiver Ayden Williams entered the transfer portal just a week ago and the talented Ridgeland native landed in Starkville a few days later. On Friday, Williams announced his decision to transfer to Mississippi State for his final two years of college.
Williams has been a promising wide out for the Rebels for the last couple of years but was lost in the shuffle with an influx of transfer receivers like Tre Harris, Juice Wells and others. The 6’3, 205-pounder played in 19 games his first two seasons with no redshirt. He had seven career catches for 119 yards including four catches for 80 yards as a true freshman in 2023. This year, Williams had three catches for 39 yards.
Expectations are still high for the talented pass catcher as he’s just two years removed from being one of the best receivers in his class. The On3 Industry rankings had him as the No. 82 player in the country and a four star across every network. He was ranked as the No. 16 wide receiver and the No. 2 player in the state for the class of 2023.

Williams is a product of Ridgeland High School where he made a name for himself starting early in his career. By his junior season, Williams had 63 catches for 1,156 yards and 14 touchdowns. He followed that up with 1,265 yards his senior year and 14 more scores. On3 had Williams a preseason Freshman All-American coming into his first year in Oxford and he flashed in the offseason year one. Chad Bumphis and the Bulldogs now will give him a chance to see if he can realize his potential in Starkville instead.
Bumphis will have a lot of new faces in the room this season with the coach now up to five newcomers from the transfer portal. State has added Brenen Thompson (Oklahoma), Jaron Glover (Michigan State), Cam Thompson (Northern Illinois) and Markus Allen (Eastern Michigan) and the unit could add one more with the target set squarely on Georgia’s Anthony Evans who visited State this week.
