A dwindling Mississippi State women’s basketball roster took on another hit on Thursday.

Sources told Maroon and White Daily that rising junior center Quanirah Montague is expected to hit the transfer portal. This comes after two seasons with the Bulldogs in which Montague was a regular off the bench for coach Sam Purcell.

In addition to her transfer, Montague is going to be rehabbing a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her knee sources said. Montague injured her knee in the NCAA Tournament first round matchup against California and will require surgery.

The 6’5 center from Atlantic City, New Jersey played in 66 games the last two seasons and averaged 3.8 points and 3.1 rebounds. Montague’s freshman season saw her average 7.2 minutes per game as she played in 32 of the Bulldogs contests and scored 2.9 points per game with 2.4 rebounds and she blocked 26 shots.

Montague was one of just four players that stayed on the roster from a WBIT team that won 22 games and she helped State get back to the NCAA Tournament this season. Backing up starting center Madina Okot, Montague played 11.7 minutes off the bench and averaged 4.6 points and 3.7 boards a game with a 55% field goal percentage.

With Montague now gone, the Bulldogs have lost all three centers from this past season. The starter Okot hit the transfer portal last Friday while third string center Kayla Thomas graduated. State has now had seven players enter the transfer portal since the end of the season including Debreasha Powe and Denim DeShields from the starting lineup.

Purcell is set to bring an almost entirely new roster as State has just three remaining players from last season coming back. Destiney McPhaul, Chandler Prater and Rocio Jiminez are all that remain from a 22-12 season and Purcell has only added Ole Miss forward Kharyssa Richardson to his roster this offseason.
