Former N.C. State transfer defensive end Red Hibbler was back in Starkville on Wednesday for his Mississippi State official visit. But the rising senior and Louisville, Miss., native didn’t have to worry about any of those recruiting pressures during his visit.

Hibbler signed with Mississippi State last week and on Wednesday, he got the chance to experience his official visit. Hibbler led N.C. State with 6.5 sacks in the 2023 season before redshirting this past season after playing in just four games.

“I got the chance to meet the Bulldog family,” Hibbler recalled. “I got the opportunity to talk to the strength coach and the nutrition folks. We sat down to eat and just got the chance to be around all of the coaches.”

Growing up in Louisville, Hibbler was already familiar with State’s program, obviously. But this visit was quite different from his previous times on campus.

“When I was at Louisville High School, the only time I went to Mississippi State was when I played 7-on-7 tournaments,” explained the 6-foot-2 and 265-pound Hibbler. “So being there today was just amazing, honestly. I was just capturing the moment and being in the moment during my visit.”

During his stay in Starkville, Hibbler got a better idea of the defensive scheme he will be running next fall. Those conversations with defensive coordinator Coleman Hutzler and defensive line coach David Turner were able to shed light on what to expect.

“I mainly met with Coach Hutzler, the defensive coordinator, and Coach David Turner, the defensive line coach,” added Hibbler. “Then I met the rest of the position coaches. Coach Hutzler said he’s ready for me to come in and do what they’ve seen me do before at defensive end.”

With Turner, that included some film study about Mississippi State’s defensive front.

“I got to sit down with Coach Turner and watch film,” Hibbler noted. “We watched previous film on the Bulldogs and he was showing me how things go. Basically, he was showing me the philosophy of their defense and how they run things on defense.”

With his decision already made, Hibbler is now counting down the days until he enrolls in January. And now he is getting excited about spending his last season of eligibility playing at Davis Wade Stadium.

“Man, I am so ready to get started,” mentioned Hibbler. “Words can’t even explain how ready I am to play in front of the Mississippi State crowd and play in front of all those cowbells.”
