2024 receiver Ricky Johnson flips from Stanford, signs with Mississippi State
Whether in December or February, signing day will always produce a surprise or two for Mississippi State. Such was the case Wednesday with the official signing of 2024 receiver prospect Ricky Johnson of Houston County (Ga.) High School.
The On3 three-star prospect was a top target for Mississippi State this past spring before he initially committed to Stanford. The 6-foot-1 and 175-pound Johnson remained committed to Stanford until Wednesday when he officially signed with the Bulldogs. Johnson announced his official signing at his high school on Wednesday evening.

Johnson, who also played defensive back at Houston County High School, also held offers from Auburn, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, UCF and Minnesota among several others. This past weekend, Johnson and family members took an official visit to Mississippi State.
Bulldog assistant Chad Bumphis was a key factor in Johnson’s decision to sign with the Bulldogs, as well. This past season Johnson totaled 65 catches for 1,213 yards and 16 touchdowns. He is expected to be a summer enrollee for the Bulldogs.
