Earlier this month, 2024 Mississippi State signee Sanfrisco Magee finished off his athletics’ career at McComb High School and capped off a successful senior year. Now the On3 three-star receiver prospect turns his attention to his next chapter on the gridiron with the Bulldogs.

Like previous years at McComb High School, Magee rarely experienced a break from sports. That rapid pace continued after his prep football career concluded last November and carried over to the spring period.

“I had a good season in track,” Magee remarked. “I am doing the 400 meters, 110 hurdles, long jump and the triple jump, and I went state in the hurdles and triple jump. We made it to the championship game in basketball, too. It was just a bunch of football players playing basketball and not knowing what to do (laughing). But we had a good season.”

As a senior, Magee carried a lot of responsibility on both sides of the ball for McComb High School. Offensively, he finished the season with 48 catches for 1,229 yards and 15 touchdowns and on defense, he totaled 25 tackles, one PBU and one fumble recovery. Magee also returned two kickoffs for 165 yards and one touchdown.

This spring he has also worked on his preparations for his arrival to Mississippi State and enjoyed getting a glimpse of his future offensive system in Starkville.

“With football training, I’ve been running some routes,” said the 6-foot-3 and 195-pound Magee. “I was at Mississippi State for the spring game and it was cool being back. I liked how the offense threw the ball so much now and that was good to see.”

Back in January, some of Magee’s classmates and friends enrolled at State and were able to experience spring drills with the Bulldogs. And they were able to give Magee some insight as to what to expect in training camp.

“I’ve been talking to JJ (Harrell) and Stonka (Burnside),” noted Magee. “They’ve been keeping me updated. They talked about all the drills they do in practice and what it’s like there.”

Regarding his recruiting process, Magee experienced a few twists and turns. He initially committed to Ole Miss last summer before switching his commitment to Mississippi State in December, which led to his December signing with the Bulldogs.

But all of that is in the past now, and reality of the next step is on Magee’s mind.

“Overall I am glad recruiting is over with,” added Magee. “But sometimes you wish you could redo it and go back to how it was. When you are being recruited coaches are always nice to you and everything (laughing). But now it is real life and things get real with the coaches.”

Like most incoming freshmen to the SEC, Magee realizes what lies ahead at Mississippi State. He has a learning curve to face in the coming months along with his first summer workouts with the Bulldogs starting up next month.

“I am ready to get there,” Magee mentioned. “I want to get up from the bottom of the depth chart and the reason I run track is to stay in good shape for those workouts. I also played baseball this spring until we got eliminated in the playoffs. But track keeps me in good shape.”
