Mississippi State guard Shakeel Moore enters transfer portal

On Wednesday afternoon Mississippi State guard Shakeel Moore officially entered the transfer portal, according to On3’s Jamie Shaw. Moore still has one season of eligibility remaining and has spent the previous three seasons at Mississippi State. He began his college career at N.C. State where he spent one season before transferring to Mississippi State for the 2021-22 season.

This past season the North Carolina native ranked third on the team with 7.9 points a game and also averaged 2.2 rebounds a game. Moore ranked third on the squad with 29 made 3 pointers and shot 36.3% from 3 point territory. Moore also ranked third on the team with a 70.2 free throw percentage and had 59 assists and 28 steals on the season. He played in 33 games this season and started 22 games for the Bulldogs.

Moore’s best season as a Bulldog came in the 2022-23 campaign where he averaged 9.8 points a game. For his three-year tenure at Mississippi State, Moore scored 864 points and averaged 8.8 points a game.

Moore becomes the third Bulldog to enter the transfer portal since the conclusion of the 2023-24 season. Last week saw junior guard Trey Fort and junior forward Jaquan Scott enter the transfer portal.

With Moore’s decision, Mississippi State is just awaiting on the decision of sophomore forward KeShawn Murphy regarding remaining players with eligibility on the 2023-24 roster. Sources have noted, however, that Murphy is leaning towards returning to Mississippi State for the 2024-25 campaign.

Last week Mississippi State added its first incoming transfer in Penn State guard Kanye Clary, who averaged 16.7 points in his sophomore season at Penn State. The Bulldogs finished 21-14 this past season and collected their second straight NCAA Tournament berth.
