Stephen guides Mississippi State to win in game one of double header
The steady arm of Khal Stephen guided the Mississippi State Bulldogs to a win in game two of the series against Mount St. Mary’s.
The game was the first of a double header at Dudy Noble Field on Saturday after Friday night’s game was rescheduled. Behind a two run seventh inning that put some space between the Bulldogs and The Mount, Mississippi State took the win 7-2.
Stephen finished with nine strikeouts, one walk and one HBP through six scoreless innings as his team pulled away to a 5-0 lead. Gavin Black came in for relief in the seventh and surrendered a pair of runs that Dakota Jordan immediately earned back with a two-run moonshot.
Although Jordan provided the long ball, David Mershon stayed hot at the plate and finished 3-4 and a home run shy of the cycle. His average shot up to .542 on the young season following his comeback from injury.

Connor Hujsak was also able to find more consistency at the dish and finished 2-4 with a double to boot since his return to the starting nine.
After Black surrendered the pair of runs in the top of the seventh, Luke Dotson came in for relief and finished off The Mount by throwing a pair of scoreless innings to seal the victory. The second game of the double header is scheduled to being at 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, and can be streamed on the SEC Network+.
