Trevion Williams spent his previous two seasons at Mississippi State watching from the sidelines more times than not. The Bulldog defensive lineman redshirted his first season before missing most of last season due to injury.

But this year has been a different story for Williams, who has already received a medical redshirt for last season and is classified as a redshirt freshman this season. Williams has played in nine of ten games this year and currently leads State’s defensive linemen in tackle (28).

Those consistent reps have steadily added needed experience for Williams and that process continues this month. Earlier this week Williams met with the media to discuss his season and the future:

Q: How do you feel like you’re playing now after getting healthy again?
Williams
: I’ve been a little slow because of my injury. But I am getting back to normal and back to 100 percent.

Q: What percentage would you say you are right now?
Williams
: I would say right now around 75 percent.

Q: Overall, how are you feeling the past two games after missing one game?
Williams
: Personally, I feel like I’m behind the eight ball just a little bit. So this week with practice, I’m just trying to play catch up and get myself back in the groove.

Q: Sulaiman Kpaka didn’t draw a lot of headlines when he transferred to State. What have you seen from him this year?
Williams: Consistent. He is one of the older guys so he is upholding the standard for the Dline. Just a consistent player. He tries what he can do to play well each game.

Q: After getting a lot of reps this year, how much has that helped with your play this year?
Williams
: It just helps the game slow down for me a lot and more than my freshman year. It’s a lot slower and I’m understanding a lot more. So I would say next year I will be more prepared.

Q: When you watch yourself on film, do you see yourself playing differently than last year?
Williams
: Yes I can see myself playing faster than I did the previous years, simply because it’s slowing down for me and I’m getting the hang of it.

Q: Your thoughts on freshman Kai McClendon?
Williams
: He’s doing it like an older guy. He is still young and has a young mindset. But he had to grow quick and he’s been thrown into the fire playing as a true freshman. He’s been doing pretty good and there’s just the little things he has to work on and he will be okay.

Q: What’s it going to take to get over the top in these last two games?
Williams
: Just keep going. Stack days and try to be consistent and get better every day.

Q: How is your position coach handling all of that?
Williams
: Coach (David) Turner is Coach Turner. He don’t care if we have one guy, two guys or three guys. We’re still going to roll.

Q: Your thoughts on the future for yourself going into the spring?
Williams
: I just look forward to getting back healthy, getting back ready to get on the field to perform.
