Former Stanford offensive lineman Trevor Mayberry breaks down Mississippi State decision
Mississippi State’s work in the winter transfer portal continued on Monday with another addition to the offensive line. Former Stanford transfer offensive lineman Trevor Mayberry announced his Mississippi State decision less than 24 hours after officially visiting the Bulldogs.
The 6-foot-3 and 315-pound Mayberry began his college career with two seasons at Penn in the Ivy League before transferring to Stanford before the 2023 season. After playing one season with the Cardinal, Mayberry opted to redshirt this past season due to an injury and he has one year of remaining eligibility.
“I just see so much potential in the program,” Mayberry explained. “Even talking to the strength staff and the athletic trainers, their whole goal is helping you become the best player you can be and the best person you can be. The whole town is rooting for you and that makes you want to step on that field every time and make the whole town proud.”
Mayberry officially visited Mississippi State this past Saturday and Sunday, and also took official visits to Virginia Tech and UCF since entering the transfer portal. His first trip to Starkville naturally gave him a good idea about his next program.
“It was awesome and I really enjoyed it,” recalled Mayberry. “Going around the town, you can see everyone is really invested in Mississippi State football. I got to meet all of the coaches, the strength staff, academic people and athletic trainers.
“Just to see the optimism from the coaches was great, too. They didn’t have a good season last year but I saw what their plan is. They have high goals and they are positive that what they are doing will work. They’ve added some good pieces from the transfer portal this year and I am excited about that.”
Mayberry’s mindset was also similar regarding his time with head coach Jeff Lebby. And with those talks, Mayberry saw what Lebby expects out of his locker room.
“Coach Lebby is a great guy and an awesome coach,” Mayberry remarked. “He is someone I definitely want to play for. He is very passionate about football and the school there. He is down to earth and I felt comfortable talking to him. I told him about my journey and he was intrigued and asking me a lot of questions.
“You can tell it is more than just football to him. He also wants a good person inside his locker room. He wants good people in the locker room to lead the team.”

Mayberry also left campus with a good impression of Mississippi State offensive line coach Phil Loadholt.
“I spent a lot of time with Coach Loadholt,” added Mayberry. “He watched some of my film and then we just watched some general film. He showed me what I can work on and I am excited to work with him. You can tell he is passionate about his job.
“He played in the NFL and he has put guys in the NFL. So he knows what works and he has that experience. He played at the highest level and was surrounded by other guys in the NFL. So he knows what it takes and wants to coach you to the best of your ability.”
Mayberry, a Tampa, Fla., still has some work left in the classroom to finish up at Stanford. But once that happens in March, he plans to make his way to Mississippi State immediately and gear up for spring football.
“I finish up at Stanford the beginning of March,” mentioned Mayberry. “Then the next day I will be at Mississippi State and I will be able to go through spring football. I am very excited to get back to work. I got injured last year so it was tough for me and I feel like I have something to prove. I am excited to play SEC ball and be around great people.”
With Mayberry’s decision, he becomes the fourth transfer offensive linemen addition for the Bulldogs. He joins center Carson Lee (Eastern Michigan), tackle/guard Jesse Ramil (James Madison) and center/guard Koby Keenum (Kentucky) and all have enrolled this month at Mississippi State.
