Weekly report: Where to watch Mississippi State Hoops
Going forward, each week, we will have a weekly report on both men and women’s Mississippi State basketball opponents and where fans can find the games on network television, streaming or otherwise. This article will be pinned each week and will also appear as a “sticky” thread on our message boards.
Mississippi State Men’s Hoops
Now back at full strength and on a five game win streak, the Bulldogs are headed into 2024 with a renewed sense of optimism. That sense has been driven home by the return of long time Mississippi State big man Tolu Smith to the lineup. Smith dropped 16 points in his season debut against Bethune Cookman in only 19 minutes. When conference play heats up, that minutes figure should be on the lower side of things barring any foul trouble.
Speaking of conference play, Mississippi State is set to begin their conference slate this weekend, January 6, against South Carolina on the road. That game is scheduled to tip off at 11 a.m. CT on CBS. At the moment, this is the lone CBS game that MSU has on the schedule this season.
South Carolina has had quite the non-conference slate itself. The Gamecocks are currently 12-1 on the season with their lone loss coming narrowly on the road to Clemson 67-72. The good news for Bulldog fans, though, is that there really isn’t a marquee win outside of a victory over Notre Dame in the ACC/SEC challenge.
A team with momentum at home is no short order for Mississippi State, though, and the game will serve as a great barometer for how well Smith is meshing in the lineup in only his second game back on the season.
Mississippi State Women’s Hoops
To put it bluntly, the Mississippi State women are on a tear. For the third straight week, a Bulldog has been named SEC Player of the Week after Darionne Rogers made a bit of history with her triple double, and the MSU women are gelling together at the perfect time.

After a thundering victory over Mississippi Valley State, the women will play host to the Vanderbilt Lady Commodores on Thursday, January 4, at 6:30 p.m. to kick off their conference slate. That game will be aired on the SEC Network +.
Vanderbilt sits at 13-1 with their lone loss coming to NC State on the road 62-70. This will be another test for a red hot Bulldog squad, and will ensure that MSU can’t be caught looking ahead to the weekend.
This weekend, though, is one that head coach Sam Purcell, his players and his staff have had circled since the offseason. Why? Because on Sunday, January 7, on fairly short rest, the Bulldogs will make the trip up to Columbia to face off against the South Carolina Gamecocks.
That tip is scheduled for noon and will be aired on the ESPN main network. South Carolina is a perfect 12-0 on the season, and will likely be 13-0 by the time that they match up with Mississippi State on Sunday. The SEC schedule is a grind for any team, but Mississippi State doesn’t have the luxury of easing into it by any means.
