2026 receiver Zion Crumpton flips commitment to Mississippi State

The month of June has been an interesting one for 2026 receiver and On3 three-star prospect Zion Crumpton. But that roller-coaster ride ended Sunday/Monday with his Mississippi State commitment.
The playmaker from Carver (Ala.) High School initially committed to South Florida last weekend on an official visit. But after his official visit to Mississippi State this weekend, Crumpton switched his commitment to the Bulldogs. Crumpton is rated as the nation’s No. 91 receiver and the state’s No. 24 prospect by On3 composite rankings.
“I’ve been having a tight bond with Mississippi State,” noted Crumpton. “They’ve been on me hard and all of the coaches made me feel welcomed. They make you feel at home there and it was just the right time to go ahead and join them.”
Crumpton also holds Power 4 offers from Florida, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, West Virginia, Georgia Tech and Cincinnati among others. His weekend official visit centered around how comfortable he would feel being at Mississippi State and that visit checked all of the boxes.
“Really, the weekend was just about whether or not I could see myself in that situation,” mentioned Crumpton. “I wanted to see if it was the right fit for me and my family. Once I saw all of that it was an easy decision for me.”
His official visit was Crumpton’s first time in Starkville this year but not his first visit to campus.
“I’ve been there before but it was just for a camp last year,” Crumpton explained. “But this weekend was really nice and it was great. We spent time with the coaches but mostly the players. It was good to meet everybody and see some of the coaches again.”

Crumpton also felt wanted by his player hosts, as well. That time with current Bulldogs gave him more knowledge about the offense and what kind of factor he could be for the Bulldogs in the future.
“I was with the quarterbacks – Luke Kromenhoek and Kamario Taylor,” remarked the 6-foot-1 and 183-pound Crumpton. “They were telling me how they can use me on offense. They were showing me where I would fit and what it’s like in that offense.”
As Crumpton eluded to, he has been on Mississippi State’s radar for awhile now and over that time, he has built close relationships with the staff. In particular, that included head coach Jeff Lebby and receivers coach Chad Bumphis.
“Coach Bump was great,” Crumpton added. “Me and Coach Bump have been having a great bond. It was smooth to be around him again. Him and Coach Lebby were telling me some of the same things. They said I can come in as a combo player and make plays from all over on offense.”
With his decision, Crumpton becomes the third receiver commitment in the class, joining Jayden Cration of Canton High School and Camden Capehart of Winnsboro (Texas) High School.
