4-star PF Mikey Wilkins signs with NC State
NC State found itself in a recruiting battle for four-star power forward Mikey Wilkins when he visited campus in September. But before he even left campus, Wilkins had his mind made up: he was going to join the Wolfpack.
Now, just over two months since he picked the Pack, Wilkins made it official by signing with NC State on Wednesday. The Arden (N.C.) Christ School standout was the second player to join the Wolfpack’s 2025 recruiting class, leaving six roster spots open for the 2025-26 campaign.
Position: Power forward
School: Arden (N.C.) Christ School
Height/Weight: 6-8, 240
Other offers: Clemson, Georgetown, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Texas A&M, VCU, Virginia Tech
Accolades: North Carolina Independent Schools 4A State Champion
What Wilkins looked for in a school
Wilkins was a hot name on the recruiting trail as he generated interest from all over the country. But in the end, it was NC State that was able to check the boxes he was looking for within a collegiate program.
“I want to go to a program that is going to let me play my game and be the person that I am,” Wilkins told On3’s Jamie Shaw before his commitment. “The three things are fit, family connection, and education. Go somewhere, the degree matters, and can be competitive in life. A family environment for me is with the coaches. Where I can talk with them about me and they can help me though more than basketball. I want to go somewhere I know the coaches are there for me.”

What Wilkins brings to NC State
Wilkins was courted by programs from nearly every major college basketball conference, in part, due to his unique ability to play the sport. He’s a versatile player that is unafraid of doing whatever it takes to win a basketball game.
“He is a unicorn in his best sense,” Christ School coach Josh Coley told TheWolfpacker.com. “He is very, very unique and very special to coach because he can do so much. I think his greatest gift is that he’s never uncomfortable in any place you put him on the floor. No matter where you put him, he’s comfortable and no matter what you ask of him, he will do.”
“I think he’s the ultimate team guy who wants to win at all costs.”
Wilkins averaged 13.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.4 steals a game last season, his first campaign at Christ School. Before that, the forward put up 28 points with 11.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists during his sophomore season at Rutherfordton (N.C.) R-S Central High.
The 6-foot-8, 240-pound power forward is a unique player, and he will fit into coach Kevin Keatts’ system well, bolstering next season’s front court.
