4-star SG Matt Able officially signs with NC State

Tampa (Fla.) Sagemont Prep four-star shooting guard Matt Able was NC State’s first major addition under coach Will Wade. Now, he made his commitment official by signing with with Wolfpack on Thursday, the program announced.
Able, a former Miami commit, is the No. 21 player in the country and helped boost NC State’s signing class to No. 12 nationally in the On3 Industry Rankings. He joins Arden (N.C.) Christ School four-star forward Mikey Wilkins as Wolfpack signees.
“I’m excited to have Matt sign with us,” Wade said in a statement. “I believe he has the chance to become a complete player in our program on both the offensive and defensive end of the floor. He is a three-level scorer that has the ability to use his height and athleticism to get to the rim, but also has a good mid-range shot and can really get going from long range.
“He’s just scratching the surface of what he can become, but has all the tools to be a difference maker at NC State. Most importantly, he is a high character young man that is competitive and will be a great addition to our locker room.”
Able, who picked NC State over Baylor, Texas and Stanford, averaged 20.4 points on 40.1 percent shooting from 3-point distance on 7.7 attempts this past season at Sagemont Prep, which allowed him to move into the top 30 in the latest On300 rankings.

The 6-foot-4, 180-pound shooting guard picked the Wolfpack because of what Wade had to offer as an elite-level coach.
“To put it simply, Will Wade,” Able told TheWolfpacker.com shortly after his commitment. “He showed the vision that he had for me and what he thought I could be in their system, and it just made sense because they’re play style fits how I like to play. I think they can help me win a lot of games at NC State and then get to the next level.”
Now, Able, who is set to move to Raleigh in mid- to-late May, will be a cornerstone piece for what NC State is looking to accomplish in the Wade era, beginning with a quest to return to the NCAA Tournament next March.
“I committed because he believes in me and I believe in him,” Able said. “It’s kind of a mutual partnership that’s going to win some games.”
