ACC announces future championship locations, all in North Carolina
North Carolina might as well be titled the “state of ACC championships.” The ACC will host its championships for 14 different sports in the state, beginning as soon as this year, Commissioner Jim Phillips announced Thursday.
“We are incredibly proud to announce this tremendous package of neutral site championships that will be held in the State of North Carolina, where the league was founded more than 70 years ago,” ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips said in the announcement. “Each of these outstanding cities and venues will provide a first-class experience for our student-athletes, coaches, institutions, alumni and fans over the next seven years. We are also pleased to have been able to deliver so quickly on our commitment to continue to hold numerous tournaments and championships in cities across the State of North Carolina as part of the ACC Board of Directors’ decision to relocate the conference office headquarters to Charlotte.”
The headlining news from Phillips’ announcement was the ACC men’s basketball tournament will be held in North Carolina for the next five years starting in 2025. Charlotte’s Spectrum Center will host the event in 2025, 2026 and 2028, while the Greensboro Coliseum will be the venue for the 2027 and 2029 tournaments.
This year’s men’s basketball tournament is being held in Washington, D.C., but it will return to North Carolina for a five consecutive years after its trip to the nation’s capital.
While the men’s tournament will be held in North Carolina for an extended period, the ACC announced the women’s basketball tournament will be held in Greensboro for the 2025 edition and at Charlotte’s Spectrum Center in 2027.
In addition to the basketball tournaments, the ACC announced the next five years of the baseball championships. The Durham Bulls Athletic Park will host the event in 2025, 2027 and 2029, while Charlotte’s Truist Field is the venue for 2024, 2026 and 2028.
The football championship game will be held at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium through the 2030 season.
Phillips also announced the venue for the following Olympic sports championships: gymnastics; rowing; men’s and women’s tennis; women’s golf; men’s and women’s swim and dive; men’s and women’s soccer; and men’s and women’s lacrosse.
