ACC Baseball Tournament: How field looks today
The 2022 ACC Baseball Championship is May 24-29 in Charlotte at Truist Field. Not every team is guaranteed to participate, but at this point NC State baseball is in strong position to avoid being one of the two teams left out.
Those two teams currently would be Boston College and Clemson. With nine games left for NC State baseball, even if the Wolfpack lost all of them and BC won its remaining six, the Eagles could not catch NC State in the standings.
Clemson is five games behind NC State in the ACC baseball standings, and the Tigers also have nine games left.
How does the ACC Baseball Tournament work? The 12 teams are divided into four pools:
Pool A: No. 1, 8 and 12 seed
Pool B: No. 2, 7 and 11 seed
Pool C: No. 3, 6 and 10 seed
Pool D: No. 4, 5 and 9 seed
The pools play round-robin games. The team with the best record emerges into the semifinals, with the Pool A and D winners playing in game one and Pool B and C winners in the second.
Being one of the top four seeds is a distinct advantage, automatically winning the tiebreaker if the teams tie 1-1.
Here are how the pods are currently configured for the ACC Baseball Tournament
ACC Baseball Pool A:
1 seed — Miami (17-7 in ACC). The Hurricanes are the lone team to have already clinched a bid into the ACC Baseball Tournament. Currently, Miami is three games up on Louisville in the win column for the ACC’s top seed, but the Canes final two series are against Notre Dame and Florida State, two challenging opponents.
8 seed — Georgia Tech (12-12). The Jackets are currently tied with Pittsburgh, but the two teams have not played each other yet. The next tiebreaker is divisional records, where Georgia Tech has the edge. Those two teams will play at the end the season against each other in Pitt. Before then, GT has a three-game set this weekend at Clemson, who is battling to catch one of the final spots in the ACC Baseball Tournament.
12 seed — Duke (8-13). The defending ACC baseball champs were in danger of not making the event but have played itself into a tie with UNC for 11th place. The Heels have an edge in the tiebreaker though by winning a three-game series with Duke. The Blue Devils final three series are at Pittsburgh, home vs. Duke and at Virginia Tech.
Pool B:
2 seed — Louisville (14-7). The high-powered Cards offense have series at Wake Forest and at Virginia Tech, two ballparks conducive to offense, and finish vs. Virginia at home in its attempt to catch Miami.
7 seed — Florida State (11-10). The streaky, up-and-down Seminoles has a great opportunity this week to pad its record at Boston College and also ends the year at UNC, but in between host Miami for three.

11 seed — North Carolina (8-13). Having gone 3-12 in its last 15 ACC games, the Heels are in danger of being caught by Clemson for the last spot thanks to a challenging schedule down the stretch. UNC is at NC State this weekend before traveling to Wake Forest and FSU.
Pool C:
3 seed — Virginia Tech (14-8). The Hokies may be the hottest team in the ACC, including taking two of three at home vs. NC State. Virginia Tech is 12-4 in its last six ACC series and is surging higher up the ACC baseball standings. VT is out of conference this weekend before a big three-game series at home vs. Louisville and closing with Duke coming to Blacksburg.
6 seed — NC State (11-9). The Wolfpack plays at home or close to it for the rest of the year in ACC action. NC State hosts UNC this weekend and Wake Forest to end the regular season. In between is a three-game set at Duke. All three would currently be the last three seeds in the ACC Baseball Tournament.
10 seed — Wake Forest (10-11). After dropping its last two ACC series, the Deacons host Louisville this weekend before finishing the year on the road in rival games, at UNC and at NC state.
Pool D:
4 seed — Notre Dame (13-8). The Irish will be off this weekend before hosting Pitt and finishing at Miami. The Irish have had three games canceled this year, including one at NC State when it took the other two games against the Pack.
5 seed — Virginia (14-10). The Cavaliers are also off this weekend after dropping three of its last four ACC series. Virginia will return to conference play at home vs. Clemson before closing at Louisville.
9 seed — Pittsburgh (10-10). The Panthers are on the NCAA Tournament bubble and will look to close strong in ACC baseball action. It hosts Duke this weekend before traveling to Notre Dame and closing at home against Georgia Tech.
