The ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament begins Tuesday, March 7 with teams seeded 10 through 15. The winners of those games will meet seeds 5 through 7 in the second round a day later while seeds 8 and 9 will also play each other.

Those who make it out of Wednesday will advance to the quarterfinals against seeds 1 through 4, which receive a coveted double bye.

Tiebreakers in the standings are decided by head-to-head results, and if needed after that, starting with the top seed, using the comparative records against the best teams in the league.

Here’s how the tournament currently shapes up:

ACC Tournament Double Byes

1. Pittsburgh (14-5)

Pittsburgh’s stunning loss at Notre Dame on Wednesday hurt the Panthers’ NCAA Tournament bid, but did nothing to alter the race for the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament. The winner of Saturday’s Pittsburgh at Miami game will grab the spot.

Currently the Panthers have a tiebreaker over Miami with an earlier win over the Hurricanes at home. But if Miami prevails Saturday to split the season series, the next tiebreaker goes to records against the next highest team in the standings.

Both Miami and Pitt beat Virginia in their lone games against the Cavs, but the Panthers lost its only game with Duke and Miami owns a win over the Blue Devils. Similarly, Clemson won at Pitt the lone time they met, and Miami beat the Tigers.

With a loss, there are scenarios where Pitt could fall out of a double bye, which was the damage done to the Panthers by losing at Notre Dame.

Remaining schedule: at Miami

2. Miami (14-5)

See Pittsburgh in terms of one seed. With a loss, Miami is still locked into a double bye.

Remaining schedule (in order): Pittsburgh

3. Virginia (14-5)

A win Saturday over lowly Louisville will move Virginia into the No. 2 seed for the tournament.

If Virginia loses, the seeding depends on other outcomes and ranges from 2 to 4, but the Cavs are locked into a double bye.

Remaining schedule: Louisville

4. Clemson (13-6)

The Tigers currently have the last double bye for the ACC Tournament by virtue of a head-to-head win over Duke to prevail in that tiebreaker. With a win over Notre Dame, Clemson is in a good position when it comes to tiebreakers with Duke, so a double bye seems almost assured.

Remaining schedule: Notre Dame

One-Round Bye

5. Duke (13-6)

The Blue Devils’ best hope for a double bye involves a Clemson loss, but they can do no worse than a five seed. There are narrow paths to a double bye if Clemson wins,

Remaining schedule: at North Carolina

6. NC State (12-8)

The Pack will either be a six or seven seed. Realistically, where NC State is in the ACC Tournament will come down to UNC losing or winning.

The only hopes of staying a six seed with a North Carolina win would involve a stunning Virginia loss.

Remaining schedule: at Duke

7. North Carolina (11-8)

If North Carolina wins, the worst the Heels can realistically do is be a seven seed for the ACC Tournament. There is a narrow path to fall to an eight seed with a loss Saturday at Duke.

However, a win probably gets the Heels the six seed, but otherwise, UNC is likely to stay put at seven.

Remaining schedule: Duke.

8. Wake Forest (10-9)

With a win at Syracuse, the Demon Deacons are almost assured of staying as an eight seed unless a long list of circumstances come together starting with a UNC loss at Duke, in which case there is a very narrow path to a seven seed. With a loss, they would fall to a nine seed.

Remaining schedule: at Syracuse

9. Syracuse (9-10)

Syracuse needs a win at home over Wake Forest or a Boston College loss Saturday to stay in the 8/9 game. A loss by the Orange coupled with a BC win means Syracuse is playing Day 1.

Remaining schedule: Wake Forest

Playing On Tuesday

10. Boston College (9-10)

Boston College has won four straight to open up a possible path to get out of playing on Tuesday at the ACC Tournament. If the Eagles prevail at home versus an equally hot Georgia Tech team and a reeling Syracuse loses at home to Wake Forest, then BC will be in the 8/9 game.

The Eagles cannot fall below the 11 seed line.

Remaining schedule: Georgia Tech

11. Virginia Tech (7-12)

This is really simple: whoever wins in Blacksburg, Va., between Virginia Tech and Florida State will be the 11 seed. The loser gets the 12 seed.

Remaining schedule: Florida State.

13. Georgia Tech (5-14)

The Yellow Jackets are locked into the 13 seed and will play the loser of FSU/Virginia Tech. The winner of the 12/13 game in the ACC Tournament advances to play the five seed on Wednesday.

Remaining schedule: at Boston College.

14. Notre Dame (3-16)

Notre Dame has clinched the 14 seed and will play the winner of Virginia Tech/Florida State in the 11/14 game for the right to face the No. 6 seed on Wednesday.

Remaining schedule: at Clemson

15. Louisville (2-17)

Louisville has clinched the 15 seed and will face either Syracuse or Boston College on Tuesday in the 10/15 game for the right to face the No. 7 seed in the ACC Tournament.
