Alabama transfer linebacker Sterling Dixon commits to NC State

NC State went into this portal cycle looking for talented linebackers and landed a prospect full of potential in Sterling Dixon. The former Alabama freshman spent one season with the Crimson Tide before entering the transfer portal, visiting the Pack Friday and committing later that evening.
His official visit went super well, and he picked NC State over UNC, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Houston and others. Dixon, a former four-star recruit in the 2024 class, visited the Tar Heels before making the quick trip to Raleigh and shutting down his recruitment.
The true freshman is the third transfer linebacker in the 2025 class alongside Temple senior Tra Thomas and Norfolk State sophomore AJ Richardson. NC State’s most recent pledge could play any of the three linebacker positions at NC State, and he has a ton of potential as a pass rusher at 6-3, 211 pounds.
Dixon recorded 1 tackle in his lone season with the Tide after signing with the program out of Spanish Fort (Ala.) High. He has all four years of eligibility remaining after taking a redshirt.
Coming out of high school, Dixon was one of the top recruits in the country. On3 considered him the No. 202 prospect nationally and the No. 13 linebacker in the 2024 class. The Wolfpack commit held offers from Michigan, Auburn, LSU, Tennessee and may others as a prep recruit.

Spanish Fort assistant coach coach Charles Lawson praised Dixon’s work ethic coming out of high school.
“Sterling [Dixon] is a guy who, skill-wise, has it from A-Z. It starts in the classroom,” Lawson said. “Also, he breaks down film. I get texts from him at 11, 12, 1 in the morning because he’s watching film telling me what he’s seeing. I’ll collaborate and we’ll break that down.
“On the field, because he watches film, he knows what’s going on,” Lawson continued. “He expects what’s coming from an offense. He helps me decipher plays. He’s the total package, honestly. He’s unselfish, he’s a hard worker, and he wants to get better.”
He’s the No. 18 linebacker in the transfer portal and the No. 303 prospect overall. Dixon missed part of his freshman year due to surgery on his labrum.
