A pair of NC State basketball guards — redshirt sophomore Dereon Seabron and freshman Terquavion Smith — picked up ACC honors that were announced Monday morning.

A season ago, Seabron was a player flashing his potential while averaging 5.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. This year, Seabron is a second-team All-ACC selection after contributing 17.3 points and 8.0 rebounds with 11 double-doubles, second most in the ACC, along the way.

That leap in productivity helped Seabron edge Clemson sophomore forward P.J. Hall for the ACC’s Most Improved Player Award.

Seabron received 33 votes from the league’s 78-member panel to Hall’s 28. Seabron also received the seventh most all-conference points total to be the second highest on the second-team.

Smith, who averaged 16.5 points and 4.1 rebounds while leading the ACC with 96 made three pointers, was the second highest vote-getter on the All-Freshman Team behind the league’s Rookie of the Year, Duke’s Paulo Banchero.

Smith’s 18.3 points per game in conference play was the second-highest scoring average in the league in ACC-only games. No freshman has led the conference in threes since Duke’s J.J. Redick in 2003.
