NC State football pulled off its third flip of the 2025 cycle Monday when Gerritt Kemp swapped out his Duke commitment for a spot in the Wolfpack’s class. The three-star athlete joined the program after pledging to the Blue Devils in June.

Kemp has been one of the Pack’s top cornerback prospects for months. After picking up an offer from NC State Jan. 23, he unofficially visited the program just a few days later. The Wolfpack staff sees him playing cornerback at the next level.

Standing 6-2.5, 180 pounds, the senior athlete from Dacula (Ga.) Hebron Christian Academy also held offers from Georgia, Kentucky, LSU and others. He committed to Duke after an official visit with the Blue Devils. Kemp also spent a weekend with Ole Miss earlier in the month.

Some schools offered the versatile playmaker as a safety, while some programs even gave him the chance to play wide receiver at the next level.

The Wolfpack cornerback commit has not taken an official visit with the Pack yet. He originally planned on spending June 14-16 with NC State before canceling the trip. Cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell is his primary recruiter.

“Coach Mitchell is relatable, he understands me, my family’s background, where we come from and he’s a great guy,” Kemp said.

“He’s building a relationship with my parents even more than myself. It’s good to know that my parents can trust him. If I were to attend that school, my parents would have no problem with him being my coach, being my mentor.”

NC State impressed Kemp on his first trip to campus. He returned to Raleigh in April for another unofficial visit.

“My mom, my dad, my little brother, they loved NC State,” Kemp told TheWolfpacker.com.  “They made us feel welcome. They’re a top contender right now on my list of schools that I’m considering going to.”

On3 considers Kemp the No. 30 athlete in the country and the No. 76 prospect in Georgia’s 2025 class. As a junior, he recorded 36 total tackles, defended 6 throws, picked off 3 passes and added 514 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns .

Kemp is the Wolfpack’s No. 17 commit in the 2025 class and the third cornerback, joining Cam Strong and Caden Gordon.
