Robert Jones III, a top priority cornerback target for the Wolfpack, committed to NC State football Sunday evening. The three-star prospect from Tampa (Fla.) Vero Beach High visited Raleigh for the first time over the weekend and shut down his recruitment.

NC State offered the 6-1, 165-pound cornerback nearly a year ago and prioritized him from that point on. Jones picked the program over offers from Louisville, UCF, Miami, Florida, Auburn and many others. The Pack helped wrap up his recruitment after his first official visit.

Even though this was his first trip to Raleigh, the rising senior has a very strong bond with cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell.

“He’s just a great guy,” Jones said. “He kept it real with me from the jump, and he showed that he’s very interested in me.”

Jones originally planned on committing in May but postponed that trip to schedule visits with NC State, Illinois, USF and UCF. Louisville also made his top five.

Mitchell and Jones spoke a few times per week leading up to this visit, building a bond that grew stronger when the Wolfpack assistant visited his school this spring.  NC State likes the cornerback’s height, his ability to read the field and his willingness to make a tackle when needed as well, Jones said. Per a source, the rising senior could play both cornerback and nickel with the Pack.

Before his official visit with the Pack, he already thought highly of the program.

“I know that they develop their players, and their defense is really good,” Jones said. “I’ve just been learning, and they treat me like family, so what else could it be?”

Over 6 games with recorded statistics as a junior, Jones recorded 19 total tackles, 1 for loss, 2 interceptions and 9 defended passes. On3 considers the him a three-star prospect with an 88 rating, which makes him the No. 49 cornerback in the country and the No. 59 prospect in Florida. Per a source, the rising senior could play both cornerback and nickel with the Pack.

Jones is the No. 5 commitment of NC State’s 2025 cycle and the highest-ranked member of the class.
