BREAKING: 3-star running back RJ Boyd commits to NC State
RJ Boyd, one of NC State’s top priority running back prospects, is officially running with the Wolfpack. He picked the program over Duke Sunday evening after officially visiting both programs in June.
The three-star prospect from Waycross (Ga.) Ware County High narrowed his recruitment down to two schools after the Wolfpack and Blue Devils showed the strongest and most consistent interest.
“They have shown me I’m a priority and will help me be a better player and man,” Boyd told TheWolfpacker.com.
He spent June 14-16 in Raleigh— a critical visit that helped improve NC State’s standing. The running back already thought highly of the program, but he appreciated the chance to take an in-depth look at the Pack’s academics, the support staff and the running back depth chart.
“Well NC State was pretty high, but yes it definitely helped,” Boyd said. “They showed me everything that I wanted to see and plus they made my parents feel comfortable. They had more questions than me and they got the answers. It was a GREAT visit.”

Boyd also held offers from Missouri and Indiana. The 6-1, 210-pound rising senior originally planned on traveling to USF June 21-23 but canceled that trip.
In addition to the Wolfpack commit’s high remarks, his parents also complimented the program after the official visit. They enjoyed everything from the library, to the campus and a panel of current and former players. NC State made Boyd feel like a priority.
The running back visited Raleigh twice, once in the spring and again in June. He planned on committing April 1 originally but pushed back that decision. Running backs coach Todd Goebbel played a huge part inhis recruitment. The Wolfpack assistant visited Ware County High earlier this year and built a strong connection with Boyd that established the program as the team to beat early.
Boyd rushed for 694 yards on 114 carries and scored 10 touchdowns as a junior. The On3 Industry Ranking considers Boyd the No. 71 running back in the nation, the No. 96 prospect in Georgia’s 2025 class and the No. 939 recruit nationally.
