NC State picked up a massive commitment from coveted offensive lineman Takhyian Whitset. He is the second four-star prospect to join the Wolfpack’s 2025 recruiting class, and he chose the program over Florida State and others.

Whitset, a 6-5, 265-pound tackle from Nashville (Tenn.) Antioch High, recently decommitted from Purdue after initially pledging to the Boilermakers in April. Following an October official visit with the Wolfpack, he quickly flipped his commitment to NC State.

The No. 238 recruit in the country has been one of the fastest-rising prospects in the country over the past few weeks. NC State offered him Sept. 11. Since then, he catapulted into the On300. He is an outlier in the ranking. The other three major recruiting services consider him a three-star prospect.

Over the past month, Whitset built a strong connection with NC State. Offensive line coach Garett Tujague is his primary recruiter. He watched the Wolfpack’s matchup with Wake Forest and left with an overall positive opinion of the program on the field.

“I really liked what I saw from the offensive linemen,” Whitset said. “The atmosphere, man, it gets crazy down there in Raleigh. The fans, they get loud, the student section gets jumping, I really like that.”

Tujague built a strong connection with the lineman over the phone and, when he visited campus, they sat down to watch some of the tackle’s film. The Wolfpack assistant kept things honest and transparent with Whitset, which he appreciated.

“I like that he’s a straight-up person,” Whitset said. “We were in the film room, and he’s in there correcting things that I could have been doing better. I haven’t had really a coach that did that so far, so that’s pretty cool.”

When he decommitted from Purdue Oct. 9, Florida State quickly offered. Virginia Tech also extended a scholarship later in the week.

Whitset is also considered the No. 20 offensive tackle in the country and the No. 8 recruit in Tennessee. He is the No. 17 commit in the Wolfpack’s 2025 class and the fourth offensive lineman, joining Isaac Sowells Jr., Michael Gibbs and Kage Payne.
