BREAKING: 4-star, top-100 G Adelaide Jernigan commits to NC State
Adelaide Jernigan committed to NC State women’s basketball Sunday evening. The four-star, 5-10 guard out of Winston-Salem (N.C.) Bishop McGuinness High, is the first member of the Wolfpack’s 2025 recruiting class.
She announced the news on social media. Jernigan has been a longtime priority target for head coach Wes Moore and the rest of his staff. The No. 1 recruit in North Carolina picked the Pack over Michigan and Kentucky.
ESPN’s recruiting rankings consider Jernigan the No. 64 prospect nationally with a 93 rating. She officially visited the Wolfpack Aug. 29 before taking trips to Kentucky and Michigan in September.
“All my grandparents live in North Carolina, so they’d be able to come to the games, and then my parents and friends, so that’s a big plus,” Jernigan told On3’s Talia Goodman. “I really like that. I just like how they’ve recruited me since eighth grade. They were my first Power Five offer, so I’ve really liked them from day one.”
The Wolfpack commit hosted the staff on an in-home visit Sept. 27. NC State also visited one of her tennis matches earlier this fall, per a source.

“I just really like the relationship that I’ve had with Coach Ashley [Williams] and Coach Wes [Moore], but Coach Ashley recruited me. She recruited me at Indiana. When she left, she got this job at NC State, so we moved over. Then she really made me enjoy the school and know Wes more. I was only in eighth grade then, and then our relationship really took off. So I’ve always had a good family relationship with them as well.”
Jernigan played in 24 games for Bishop McGuinness as a junior, scoring 19 points per game. She also grabbed 3.6 rebounds, dished out 1.3 assists and swiped 1.8 steals per game last year. The guard previously released a top 10 that, in addition to NC State and Michigan, included Florida State, Wake Forest, Iowa, Louisville, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Florida and Villanova.
The Pack will need to fill at least five scholarships after the 2024-2025 season following the departures of senior guard Aziaha James, senior guard Saniya Rivers, graduate guard Madison Hayes, graduate forward Caitlin Weimar and graduate center Lizzy Williamson.
