BREAKING: JUCO CB Terrente Hinton commits to NC State
Terrente Hinton, a 6-3 cornerback for Hutchinson Community College, committed to NC State Monday morning, joining a stacked defensive back class for NC State. He made the decision public less than a day after wrapping up his official visit to Raleigh.
The cornerback picked the Wolfpack over Indiana, Appalachian State, Arizona State and Oregon State. He announced his decision on Twitter.
Cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell was his primary recruiter and made a tremendous impression when he visited the cornerback in-person shortly before the Pack extended an offer.
“Coach Mitchell, he came prepared. . . and he broke everything down and how he coaches. He was on the board writing plays. It was something I ain’t felt in a while, so it was like ‘Ok, he knew what he was talking about.’ So that really stood out the most to me and, other than that, just them balling out.”
That positive vibe extended throughout the entire Wolfpack program during his official visit.
“I feel like from the whole coaching staff, to the team, even to the recruits, everybody wants to see you win,” Hinton said. “I really like that about NC State.”
Sophomore cornerback Aydan White hosted the junior college star on the trip and told him he would be a good fit for the Wolfpack. The cornerback said his favorite part of the trip was spending time with White and the rest of the team, as the entire group welcomed him like he was already a part of the team.

When he met with head coach Dave Doeren towards the end of the trip, Hinton appreciated the importance Doeren placed on academics.
“He’s about his business,” Hinton said. “When I first talked to him, it was jokes, we laughed but, right before I left, we talked about how I like the program. He made sure I said something about school, and I really respect that out of a coach.”
On3 considers Hinton the No. 7 junior college cornerback and the No. 36 prospect nationally. In his lone season on the field at Hutchinson, the freshman cornerback recorded 18 total tackles, 1 for loss and intercepted 1 pass. He has 3 years of eligibility remaining.
The cornerback is the fifth defensive back commit of NC State’s 2023 class, joining four-star safety Daemon Fagan, four-star cornerback Brandon Cisse, three-star safety Zack Myers, and three-star safety Tamarcus Cooley. He is also the second junior college commit of this cycle after three-star defensive lineman Jykeveous Hibbler committed to the Wolfpack Dec. 11.
